Independent Catering
At Dartford Grammar School we encourage our students to eat healthy and balanced meals in a convivial atmosphere. We have two dining areas, one for years 7 to 11, and another in the Sixth Form Centre for years 12 and 13. The menus are the same in both locations. A wide choice of main meals, lighter lunches, sandwiches and salads are available every day, with a strong emphasis on foods that are popular yet nutritious. Fruit and yoghurts feature alongside the traditional puddings of the day. Members of staff join the students in the same dining areas with the same choice of menus.
Our school meals are provided by Independent Catering, a small, local, independent caterer that prides itself on using ethical and organic ingredients. The food is freshly prepared in the school's kitchens, and is locally sourced wherever possible. Independent Catering is fully compliant with the new School Food Plan and the new Allergen Rules.

Introduction of Cashless Catering (Squid) at Dartford Grammar School
Independent Catering have operated a cashless catering facility at Dartford Grammar School since January 2016. The advantages of cashless catering for parents is knowing dinner money is being spent on a healthy and nutritious meal. Parents can also see purchases, balances and be reminded to top up when the balance is running low, all via their smart phone, tablet or PC. Free School Meal entitlement is automatically added and is strictly confidential.
A Squid registration number is assigned to each individual pupil and member of staff. This is separate from, and additional to, the Joinos system used elsewhere in the school. A unique PIN number is issued and used to register via the Independent Catering web site. Once registered this system can be used to add credit and view purchases and balances. A proximity fob is then presented at the till and the purchased items deducted from the balance on the account.
