Over recent seasons the Athletics at School has been very strong.
The Athletics season in School has again been a successful one. Henry James Cowie has shown his versatility by setting 4 new records in year 9. He’s also inside the top ten nationally in 5 events.
Kent Schools Athletics
At the Kent Schools Athletics Championships. Students from DGS won 20 medals throughout the course of the day. 11 Bronze, 2 Silver and 7 Gold.
As a result of these performances 11 DGS students went on to represent the county in the inter counties match. 6 year 9s and 5 year 10/11’s. Even in this higher level of competition Henry James Cowie, Alex Olubusi, Josh Ondoma and Bamiyo Oladipupo all acquitted themselves well.
In the Schools Cup both the Junior and Intermediate teams qualified for the Regional A final with both age groups ranking inside the top 10 nationally. The intermediate team went onto qualify for the final with the juniors missing out narrowly.
The competition in the final is exceptionally tough and small margins do make a difference. The team gave a good account of themselves with some notable performances from:
Mel Onodjamue, Ben Sutton, Ross Kelly and James O’Brien
Athlete of the Final had to be Bamiyo in winning the 200m and Triple Jump setting pb’s in both. The team finished 5th place an improvement on 6th place last year.
