Cricket plays a central part in sporting life at Dartford Grammar School, alongside Rugby and Athletics. Students across all Year Groups are provided with the opportunity to train and represent the school on a weekly basis throughout the Summer Term. Years 7 to 10 participate in Kent Cup matches during the week, as well as regular fixtures on Saturdays against other reputable cricket playing schools in Kent.
Our 1st XI, comprised mainly of Year 11 and Sixth Form students, play their fixtures in June and July once the IB and GCSE examinations are finished. Notable fixtures include playing against the MCC and the Forty Club, as well as against an invitational team captained by former England, Kent and Dartford Grammar cricketer Min Patel. The MCC Day is the highlight of the cricketing calendar which also features local primary schools participating in a Kwik Cricket tournament in the morning before the main fixture between the MCC and our 1st XI.
In addition to the regular fixtures, students in Years 9 and 10 are provided with the unique opportunity of going on a cricket tour to Barbados during the Easter break. This is a once in a lifetime experience for the students which enables them to embrace a different culture, as well as prepare themselves for the cricket season ahead. We have had two successful tours in 2015 and 2017 and plans are already in place for the 2019 tour.
