Key Stage 4 Clubs & Societies
We are driven to offer a wide range of learning opportunities beyond the classroom and these include the Performing Arts, Sport, DofE, clubs, trips and expeditions. The co-curriculum promotes the development of working with others and where new abilities and talents can be encouraged and nurtured. On this page you will see the clubs and societies open to those in Key Stage 4, together with the timetable.

Workshops covering a variety of materials, techniques and processes with greater flexibility being offered compared to curriculum lesson projects.

Badminton
Open to students in KS4 and KS5, this is a fun, casual club where students and staff turn up and play singles or doubles matches. The school does enter teams for district and county school tournaments where possible.

GCSE Vocal Group
The GCSE Vocal Group is for students in Year 9-11 who wish to sing in harmony and take part in all musical activities in and out of school events.

Chess Club
Chess Club
Chess club is open to all years. Each week well over 100 students compete in individual and pair matches to time. Not only does this improve critical thinking skills but we play against other schools and enter regional and national competitions, and of course we hold an annual School Championship.

Computer Science Club
An exciting club where students will get the opportunity to go beyond the curriculum. The department will be offering Physical computing, Programming and Data science learning opportunities, where you will the chance to build small applications and projects right from scratch.
Club subjects will rotate between terms, so each term students can experience something new.
Maximum capacity is 25 students. -
Debate Club
Debate Club
Debate club gives students of all abilities a fun and challenging way to develop their oracy skills, critical thinking and communication. Exploring global affairs, contentious moral issues and the political sphere, Debate Club provides a safe environment to examine students' own opinions and learn the nuances of debate. As students develop their skills throughout the year, there will be opportunities for both in school and out of school competitions.

DGS Young Leader's Award
Open to students in KS4, this award offers certification at 3 levels: Gold, Silver and Bronze. The award is introduced via year group assembly and form time and has 3 core strands: developing oneself, contributing to your community and working with others. Much of the evidence gathered for this award will support students' work with their DofE accreditation.

Do you think there should be more recycling bins, less food waste or more charity work? If you are serious about making our school a greener, nicer and more sustainable place, then join the DGS eco council! Each key stage will take responsibility for a school improvement project and together we will work towards making this school a better place and achieving the eco school silver award!

Film Club
Film Club
We will watch a variety of films chosen to challenge and surprise us. These will include gems from the past, and hot-off-the-presses blockbusters that simply must be discussed! Typically, a theme or genre will be decided upon and a list of films to choose from will be shown. In addition, we will hold occasional 'workshops' where we will discuss a film more in depth, trial filmmaking, and learn other relevant aspects of film and media like editing.

What’s next for globalisation? How do we solve the climate crisis? What will economies of the future look like? How will we manage natural resources? Will growing populations need entirely new solutions to housing in the future? If you are interested in helping to answer any of these questions, then KS4 Geography Society is for you! Each week we will tackle a new global risk, and work together to develop strategies to build resilience for future generations.

Open to students in Years 9, 10 and 11 who are keen to explore the languages, cultures and beliefs of different cultures around the world. Each week we will journey to a different country and we will begin with the language and culture of Russia. Students can join for 1, 2 or all 3 terms

Journalism Society
Whether it is hunting for newsworthy events, investigating an ongoing story, conducting interviews with interesting people, or researching information for a feature - everyone has a place at journalism. And modern journalism is not just about writing: photographs and videos are also vital to sharing information. Even if you don't write, there will also be opportunities to edit articles, design magazines, and upkeep and maintain our website. We have won school journalism awards in the past and are aiming for another award this year - open to all Key Stages!

Students are eligible to apply to be one of two form representatives on their respective key-stage council. The application process typically takes place in Terms 1-2. Each council meets once every term. Council members represent the views of their form and year group to discuss and shape day to day school policy. Whole school council will also meet to discuss charity events too. Council meetings are led by the Assistant head in each key-stage.

Train your brain whilst learning about how different languages around the world have developed. Last year we had two pupils win Bronze awards in the UK Linguistics Olympiad. Let's beat that this year.

Maths Challenge Club
An opportunity for students to enter a renowned nationwide mathematics competition. Students put their mathematical knowledge and problem solving skills to the test, advancing to different levels for a chance to win a medal. Whilst there is no weekly meeting, students should join the google classroom to be kept up to date as to when practices and competitions will take place.

Train to become part of the school's Tech Team working with state of the art digital sound and light equipment in the Mick Jagger Centre. You will then be able to offer services during school and community events. Some evening engagements may be necessary.

R&B Band
Our fabulous Jazz Big Band for all players of Grade 3+ standard of wind and brass instruments, electric/ acoustic guitars, piano and drum-kit. The band performs in all concerts, will tour in the summer term and there are plans for an evening at Ronny Scott's!

Whole school creative writing club, run online. We explore a wide variety of forms, genres and styles of writing. We regularly enter national competitions and have had several students published in the last few years as a result. Once per term, we run an in person session in which we play creative writing games and generally enjoy the end of term.
