2021 Careers Fair gets very positive feedback

On Wednesday 8th December, over 60 members of the wider DGS community came into school to contribute to the school's annual Careers Fair.  The event kicked off with a keynote speech delivered by the school's new Enterprise Adviser, Mr Lawrie Day, who spoke to the Sixth Form about his wide-ranging career from financial crime investigation with the Metropolitan Police to now being CEO of an international consultancy firm.  The students particularly enjoyed his anecdotes relating to working in the developing world.
Year 12 students then attended two seminars of their choice, delivered by a mixture of ex-DGS-students, current parents and other friends of the school.  The students learnt what it is like to work in various industries, ranging from banking and finance, the healthcare sector, software development to teaching and the charity sector.  They asked intelligent questions to help inform the key decisions they will soon be making about life after DGS and learnt what they can be doing now to strengthen any future university and job applications.
Meanwhile Year 9 and Year 11 students visited a number of stands in the Sports Hall, where representatives of more industries answered questions and talked informally about their roles, their career journeys and what they particularly enjoy about their work.
We were very pleased to receive such positive feedback from the visiting delegates about the event and the conduct of our students, who were engaged and were keen to learn as much as possible from the contributors.  We are very grateful to these members of the DGS community who gave their time to come into school and support the event and to help the students make informed decisions about their futures.
