Monday 10 July 2023 Athletics - English Schools Cup Final 2023 On Saturday, the Junior and Intermediate athletics teams took part in the English Schools Cup Final in Chelmsford. They progressed through the 1st round and regional finals relatively comfortably, but the final would be a different proposition. This is a team event with points being awarded for performances, not positions. The Juniors set 11 new pbs, whilst the Inters collectively set 12 new pbs and 3 new school records.

Thursday 6 July 2023 IB Results 2023 Congratulations to the Year 13 class of 2023 on a very strong set of IB exam results. This is the product of their hard work in the sixth form, and the considerable efforts and support of their subject teachers and parents.

Tuesday 16 May 2023 Japanese students visit Oxford University On Thursday 11th May, ten JEP students and the Yr12 IB Japanese cohort joined the trip to Oxford University Japanese Department for an exciting day of activity and immersion into university life.

Friday 31 March 2023 Year 9 West Country Rugby Tour During the last weekend of March, 41 of the school's Year 9 rugby players went on tour to the West Country, with much of the weekend spent in Wales. This was their first experience of a rugby tour as the boys' Year 7 Lancashire Tour opportunity fell victim to Covid.

Friday 31 March 2023 Y10 MEP Birmingham Trip Our Y10 MEP students took part in the MEP ‘Journey to the East’ Birmingham trip this week, and their enthusiasm made the trip fun for all. They not only learned a great deal of culture, language and modern politics, but also had the opportunity to practise their Mandarin skills at the workshops.

Wednesday 15 March 2023 Adam Gemili (OD) returns to open new fitness suite On Tuesday 7th March 2023 we were delighted to welcome Adam Gemili (OD 2005-10) back to school to open the new fitness suite. Adam is in training but found a slot in his busy diary to not only perform the official opening, but to spend time talking to students and answering their questions.

Thursday 7 July 2022 2022 English Schools Cup Final - Juniors are National Champions and Intermediates are runner-up! Saturday 2nd July saw our athletes at the English Schools Cup Final in Abingdon. We had both Junior and Intermediate teams in the final, and hopes were very high for great performances from both teams.

Thursday 23 June 2022 Year 9 Japanese Excellence Programme - Rikkyo School Exchange On June 17th 2022, Year 9 Japanese Excellence Programme students participated in the inaugural visit to ‘Rikkyo Japanese School in England’. Located in Horsham, West Sussex, the school provides a beautiful setting amongst picturesque countryside.

Thursday 23 June 2022 Daniel Goriola and Kai Barham selected for GB Team in European Athletics Championships Dartford Grammar School is blessed with athletics teams that often feature well at National level, but we are immensely proud that two of our students have been selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the European ChampionshipsEuropean Athletics U18 Championships in Jerusalem, Israel from 4th-7th July.

Monday 6 June 2022 Art Practice Day at the National Gallery A recent Art trip (one of two that have taken place this year: we also went on a trip to the Tate Modern ) saw Year10 art students and the highest achieving art students from Year 9 participating in a trip to the National Gallery in London.

Monday 6 June 2022 Dressage Success for Govind Nambiar (Year 9) During the term break on June 1st 2022, Govind Nambiar, Year 9, competed in theLondon Regional Para Dressage Competition.British Dressage has one of the most developed pathways for equestrian disability sport in the world, offering endless competition opportunities from grassroots to Olympic level, and we are delighted that Govind won this Regional event and now moves to compete in the National Championships in July.

Monday 21 March 2022 Derek Ufton (OD 1939-44) - service of thanksgiving at Canterbury Cathedral Derek Ufton (OD 1939-44), was born on 31st May 1928 in Crayford, and passed away on 27th March 2021 aged 92 years.

Tuesday 1 March 2022 Japanese students visit Pembroke College, Oxford University We were delighted to run a trip for 10JEP and Year 12 students of Japanese to Oxford University on Friday 25th February, after having to replace it with online workshops last year. Mrs Simpson, Mrs Hyland and Miss Tasker accompanied the trip with 50 students, which was expertly organised by Hannah Kentridge of Pembroke College.

Wednesday 26 January 2022 Sakura Cherry Tree planted with ceremony! Dartford Grammar School is honoured to have received the gift of a cherry blossom tree to commemorate the ongoing friendship between Japan and the United Kingdom. This Sakura project was launched in the Autumn of 2017 during a meeting between Prime Ministers Shinzo Abe and Theresa May, and the tree we received is one of 6000 now planted throughout the UK.

Tuesday 4 January 2022 John Oakes awarded OBE in Queen's 2022 Honours List John Oakes, our recently retired Headmaster, was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s 2022 Honours List, for services to Education. We are enormously proud that he has been recognised for his hard work and the success he brought to Dartford Grammar School, especially as it is so rare that such an honour is bestowed on a Headmaster.

Thursday 9 December 2021 DGS dominates at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics After a challenging firstround and a competitive semi final, a team of our young athletes progressed into the Lee Valley Indoor Cup finals, held in early December 2021. The early rounds had marked some areas of strength and some areas that we needed to focus on as we work towards the summer term, but the boys showed themselves to be resilient and most notable was the strength of the Year 8 athletes which saw them competing against Year 9s from other schools.

Saturday 6 November 2021 Kai Barham (Yr11) named as Kent best male junior athlete for 2021 The 2021 Kent County Athletics Association (KCAA) annual President's Award Dinner was held on Friday 5th November and we are very proud to report that Kai Barham in Year 11 won the award for the best male junior athlete for 2021. At a dinner held at the Weald of Kent Golf Club, in Ashford, the President summed up the reasons why Kai was the worthy winner, and we can do no better than reproduce (with licence) his words here:

Saturday 25 September 2021 Netball Team through to Kent Finals The Year 13 netball team entered the Kent School's U19 Tournament on Wednesday 22nd September at Rainham School for Girls. The tournament had twenty-sevenschools competing in four groups for progression through to the finals.

Monday 13 September 2021 Year 11 Cricket - Miskin Plate Success! On Thursday the 9th September, the Year 11 cricketers played Kent College in the Miskin plate competition. It was a very exciting game that began with DGS losing the toss and being put into bat. Every member of the team played well but there were stand-out batting performances from Aryaman Singh and the captain Visnu Parakirama, who both made over 50. Manav Khatri also batted extremely well and was unlucky to be run out.

Thursday 9 September 2021 Excellent performance by Year 8 cricket team in Kent Cup Final The Year 8 cricket team represented the school admirably in the Kent Cup final yesterday (8thSeptember) against New Beacon School, in what was a very tense and exciting match at Rodmersham Cricket Club. In glorious weather, DGS won the toss and elected to bat and the boys posted a very competitive score of 90 runs off 20 overs. This was down to some excellent batting by captain Freddie Luckett (who top-scored with 32) and Zain Pala who struck the ball nicely and ran brilliantly between the wickets.

Thursday 12 August 2021 Dartford Grammar School students celebrate success in challenging times: GCSE results 2021 We are delighted that our students have achieved an outstanding, richly deserved set of GCSE results. These are the product of their hard work over the last two years, as well as the considerable support of their subject teachers. Between them, Year 11 have achieved an Attainment 8 total of 80.2, with 85.7% of all grades being awarded at 9-7 in our academically rigorous curriculum.

Thursday 17 September 2020 Rt Hon Nick Gibb opens 6th Form Centre and Japanese Garden The Headmaster Mr Oakes and Chair of Governors Mrs Jacobs were delighted to welcome the Rt Hon Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Standards, into school on 17th September 2020. The Minister made a brief visit to see new facilities and perform official openings of the new wing of the 6th Form Centre and the Japanese Garden.

Thursday 17 September 2020 Minister for Schools Standards commends DGS for its ambition and its part in national teaching hubs The Rt Hon Nick Gibb, Minister for School standards, visited Dartford Grammar School on 17th September 2020 and was able to update himself on the progress the school is making as a hub of the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE). He spoke at some length with Steven Ireland who is a Computer Science teacher at the school, and Niel McLean (NCCE representative – Head of Education for British Computer Society, Chartered Institute for IT) about how the programme is going.Â

Tuesday 7 July 2020 Simply Outstanding 2020 IB Diploma Results Many congratulations to Dartford Grammar School students who are celebrating outstanding IB Diploma results. In these strange and difficult times, it is a real tonic to see young people celebrating success and looking forward to the future. Having completed the usual range of assessments in their 6 subjects, in Theory of Knowledge and submitting an Extended Essay just prior to lockdown, students have had the disappointment of exam cancellations and an anxious wait while the IB carried out a rigorous marking of these assignments and awarded grades. Our students have done themselves proud.

Thursday 2 July 2020 DGSChapter wins Best Online at the Shine School Media Award The Dartford Grammar School Journalism Society was recognised at the annual Shine School Media Awards, winning the overall award for Best Online with four highly commended awards in the categories of Best Stand-Alone Piece, Best Cartoon, Best Homepage and Best Overall Content, for the school’s student publication DGSChapter. We beat stiff opposition from hundreds of schools including Whitgift School, Kingsbridge Community College, City of London School and Bromsgrove School to clinch the top award.

Dartford Grammar School is annually among the best performing secondary schools in the country, receiving awards for being in the top 10% of schools nationally for progress.
