Adam Gemili (OD) returns to open new fitness suite

On Tuesday 7th March 2023 we were delighted to welcome Adam Gemili (OD 2005-10) back to school to open the new fitness suite. Adam is in training but found a slot in his busy diary to not only perform the official opening, but to spend time talking to students and answering their questions.

We were pleased that the Mayor Paul Cutler could join us at the ceremony, as did several of the Governors. 

Adam was impressed by the new facility, which is open to all students once they have been inducted into safe usage of the equipment. PE lessons take place in the suite and the voluntary after-school take up has been remarkable. 

Adam spoke from the heart about the highs and lows of his athletics career, and his words were as much a lesson in mental health as they were about the physical side of being an athlete. He gave freely of his time over the morning he spent with us, and our sports teams and medallists appreciated the generosity he showed with his time and genuine interest in them. It was also a grand opportunity for our PE staff to catch up with Adam and the spirit of athletics. 

We are indebted to Adam for his time and ongoing interest in the school.
