Dartford Grammar School

Art Practice Day at the National Gallery

A recent Art trip (one of two that have taken place this year: we also went on a trip to the Tate Modern ) saw Year10 art students and the highest achieving art students from Year 9 participating in a trip to the National Gallery in London.

The students had a wonderful time learning about symbolism in painting during a tour of the gallery. They then had a remarkable opportunity to take part in a specialist acrylic painting workshop that involved recreating a section of a 16th Century Bronzino portrait using colour mixing, blending and layering techniques.

This study day is designed to increase critical thinking and proficiency in handling acrylic paint and painting on canvas, and the Dartford Grammar School students were a credit to the school and produced some excellent work.

As ever, thanks goes to the staff who gave up their time to accompany the students on this exceptional practical visit.
