Arthur Jones (OD 1935-40) 1923-2019
The Dartford Grammar School community has lost a great friend, supporter and a truly inspirational character: Arthur Jones passed away on 30th May, at the age of 95, after a short time in hospital.
Arthur was a student from 1935 to 1940, later returned as a teacher, and was a long-time Governor of Dartford Grammar School. His prowess at rugby took him from outstanding player to coach to grandee at the Dartfordians RFC. He will be sadly missed in both places.
At school he regularly attended our functions and, as always, it was an honour to welcome him when he recently came along to the 2019 Reunion in March. Generations of students have heard his thought-provoking eulogies at Remembrance Day services and he will be irreplaceable in that space.
Arthur was a fine and remarkable man who set a great example of living life with continued generosity and curiosity, tempered with the wisdom that comes with so very many years. We were fortunate to have him in our midst.
