Classics Excellence Programme receives further funding
Dartford Grammar School has been awarded another grant from Classics for All to run our unique Classics Excellence Programme, which offers keen and enthusiastic Year 8 Latin students the opportunity to achieve GCSE level in classical Greek through an intensive language programme over 3 ½ years. The study of Ancient Greek has long been considered a privilege for the few, not the many, but the school is determined to offer the opportunity to explore the language and culture of Ancient Greece, as we believe its study enhances literacy in the wider sense and brings an understanding of the mythology that is often the bedrock of more modern arts.
Dartford Grammar School is one of only a select few schools to be awarded a grant by Classics for All’s Electra Programme (funded by the Leventis Foundation) to offer classical Greek. This will put our Classics Excellence Programme students in a very select group across the UK and worldwide, as they will study 3 Languages to GCSE level, including the prestigious and elite language of classical Greek.
