DGS ranked 4th best state secondary school in the Southeast by Sunday Times
The Sunday Times released its keenly awaited Parent Power guide on 25th November, and Dartford Grammar School is one of four Kent schools in the top 7 of the ranked state secondary schools in the Southeast of the country. The group also included Tonbridge Grammar, The Judd School, and Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar.
Dartford Grammar School is ranked 4th of all state schools in the southeast, and 21st when the list is extended to the whole country.
Elsewhere, in the local Kent press, the group of four were described as 'amazing'. The Sunday Times itself acknowledged that families in the Southeast have the pick of some of the country's best state schools, although it was noted that for the super-selectives a home close to the school was not enough to gain a place. (Dartford Grammar would not be described thus.)
The guide goes to some lengths to point out that the state sector has raised its game in the face of the tougher GCSEs, and that the expected widening of the gap between results of the independent and state sectors has not materialised and that the gap is actually being eroded.
The article also noted that two of the four state grammar schools in the Southeast, namely Dartford Grammar and Tonbridge Grammar, have made 'huge successes of the IB'.
