Athletics - English Schools Cup Final 2023
On Saturday 8th July, the Junior and Interm
ediate athletics teams took part in the English Schools Cup Final in Chelmsford. They had progressed through the 1st round and regional finals relatively comfortably, but the final was always going to be a different proposition. This cup runs as a team event with points being awarded for performances, not positions. The Juniors set 11 new personal bests, whilst the Inters collectively set 12 new personal bests and three new school records.
Some of the outstanding performers were:
Juniors
Kai Rogan 61 points pb in the long jump with 5.82m
Sope Aremu 51 points pb in the 200m 26.3s, and a pb of 38.21m in the hammer
Timi Adebare 55 points pb in the 800m 2 mins 22s, with another pb in the hammer with 42.98m
Pbs for Dylan Case in his hurdles and triple jump, Saketh Sangeeth in the high jump, Alistair Sosu in the Pole Vault, Alikhan Rahimberganov in the 800m and Jayden Akubue in the 100m
Inters
12 of the 14 in the inter team set new personal bests in the Final
Hans Nmaju 58 points - Year 9 School Record in the Long Jump 6.36m,
Michael Oyetti 54 points pb in the discus 39.08m
Rahman Odugbayi 56 points – Year 9 School Record in the Triple Jump 13.58m
Damien Osei-Bonsu – Year 10 School Record in the Shot 15.63m
Pbs for Tolani Bello in the 200m, Freddie Luckett in the 800m, Joel Aggrey in the 300m, Louie Griggs in the 800m, Daniel Asiedu in the long jump, Arum Menon and Michael Oyetti in the discus, Osarodion Lawrence-Orumwense in the hammer.
The Junior team were announced as Champions with a huge score or 610 points, just one point off a National Record. The juniors won by a huge margin of 56 points.
The Intermediate team were also Champions setting a new National Record points score of 629 points. The inters won by an impressive 41 points.
