Excellent performance by Year 8 cricket team in Kent Cup Final
The Year 8 cricket team represented the school admirably in the Kent Cup final yesterday (8th September) against New Beacon School, in what was a very tense and exciting match at Rodmersham Cricket Club. In glorious weather, DGS won the toss and elected to bat and the boys posted a very competitive score of 90 runs off 20 overs. This was down to some excellent batting by captain Freddie Luckett (who top-scored with 32) and Zain Pala who struck the ball nicely and ran brilliantly between the wickets.
However, despite some accurate bowling from DGS, New Beacon School managed to get over the line in the final over with four balls to spare, thanks to a couple of strong partnerships in the middle and towards the end of their innings. All of the bowlers gave a really good account of themselves which took the game down to the wire. DGS would like to thank the Kent Cricket Association, especially Bill Burton for organising the entire competition, Rodmersham CC for hosting the final, and of course, the parents who went to support the boys. We are extremely proud of the boys’ efforts! Finally, the school would like to wish Freddie Luckett and Jatin Peddamallu all the best with their Kent U13 trials over the next few weeks or so.
