Silver Medals for U15 Rugby team at the finals of the Natwest Vase
The U15 Year 10 rugby team went to Twickenham on 21st March to play in the final of the Natwest Vase competition. (Their journey through to the final is recorded lower in this newsfeed.) Even before a ball was kicked, this was an historic moment for Dartford Grammar School, and some 450 supporting students, parents, staff and ODs were swelling the stands in maroon and gold.
The final was played against Samuel Whitbread Academy, who were also playing later in the day in the U18 Vase final.
The match report from Fifteen Rugby can be found here: http://www.fifteenrugby.com/u15-schools-vase-superb-first-half-sees-samuel-whitbread-claim-u15-vase-glory/. Essentially our boys fought back in the second half with breathtaking tackles and shows of speed when in possession of the ball: ultimately though, Samuel Whitbread won the match 22-7.
Head coach Gary Jones said ' A really tough fixture against an excellent Samuel Whitbread team. What a fantastic experience for this group of boys and staff. Hopefully this will inspire a whole generation of DGS students to aim for one better!'
Congratulations to the boys - this might feel like a disappointment right now but they should take immense pride in taking the school to the incomparable environment of Twickenham in this prestigious event.
