Simply Outstanding 2020 IB Diploma Results

Many congratulations to Dartford Grammar School students who are celebrating outstanding IB Diploma results. In these strange and difficult times, it is a real tonic to see young people celebrating success and looking forward to the future. Having completed the usual range of assessments in their 6 subjects, in Theory of Knowledge and submitting an Extended Essay just prior to lockdown, students have had the disappointment of exam cancellations and an anxious wait while the IB carried out a rigorous marking of these assignments and awarded grades. Our students have done themselves proud.

Four students, Nachiket Bhanushali, Rowan Burford, Alex Curwood and Holly Wilson achieved perfect scores of 45 points. Nachiket, who joined the sixth form from Wilmington Academy, has a place at Trinity College , Cambridge, to read Natural Sciences but also a very attractive scholarship offered by the California Institute of Technology. Rowan will go to Mansfield College, Oxford, to study Material Science and Alex to  Durham to study Natural Sciences. Holly who joined us from Wilmington Grammar School for Girls will study Dentistry at Bristol.

A further 9 students gained 44 points and, for the first time, the average point score of 37.6 has broken the 37 point level which considerably exceeds the international average for the Diploma of 29.9. 30% of students gained a world-class score of 40 points or more and 56.3% achieved 38 points or more (equivalent to 3 A* and an A at A level).

The IB Diploma continues to be a popular choice for aspirational, ambitious young people who have enjoyed the broad curriculum allowing them to study English, Maths, a Science, a Foreign Language and a humanity in the sixth form, meaning that our resilient, ambitious students are prepared for a wide range of opportunities in the future.
