Sonic Soiree 2025

In mid-March, the music department came together to deliver the 2025 Sonic Soiree - hoping to repeat the success of last year's fundraising evening by giving a stage to the impressive number of Bands that exist in Dartford Grammar School. It is a very popular evening with students, who this year volunteered a potential programme that proved to be too long for the anticipated time slot - the Year 9 bands therefore played as a warm-up session before the actual soiree began!

Parents are keen to support this event, which last year helped fund the building of our Recording Studio. This year the proceeds are destined to help fund the refurbishment of J3, our drama studio, with a contribution to the new lights and rigging. (This is very much part of a bigger project but we have to start somewhere...!) The evening took place in a speakeasy setting with a pizza van supplying sustenance and the Parents Association running a bar - the informality of the evening is definitely a winning formula. 

The performances were amazing and it would be very wrong to pick out any as special. The range of music went from Big Band to small groups of musicians and singers who have come together, often outside of any input from the music department, to play the music they most like. The programme was a testimony to the strength of Music as a subject at DGS, the open-mindedness of the staff, and the time that everyone involved is willing to put in, mainly outside of classes, to pursue their passions.

We thank all the players for the varied and enthusiastic programme of quite extraordinarily high quality performances, and also the audience for the support we had during the evening as a fundraising event!
