Y10 Mandarin Excellence Programme -  Birmingham Trip

Our Y10 MEP students took part in the MEP ‘Journey to the East’ Birmingham trip this week, and their enthusiasm made the trip fun for all. They not only learned a great deal of culture, language and modern politics, but also had the opportunity to practise their Mandarin skills at the workshops.

A highlight was Adam Wellard playing the Chinese drum with the SOAS Chinese music teacher Beibei Mei; their joint performance drew a large audience. There were also interesting talks from many distinguished guest speakers about their views on learning Mandarin, including professors from Cambridge University, King’s College London, University of London, Oxford University, and the current serving government Schools Minister Nick Gibb.

Apart from the fascinating learning experience offered by this immersive trip, the tasty Chinese food also kept the students very happy! The whole conference ended on a high note with Transition band’s live performance on the stage.
