Year 9 West Country Rugby Tour
During the last weekend of March, 41 of the school's Year 9 rugby players went on tour to the West Country, with much of the weekend spent in Wales. This was their first experience of a rugby tour as the boys' Year 7 Lancashire Tour opportunity fell victim to Covid.
The boys enjoyed a full itinerary with a competitive internal fixture at the outstanding Bristol University Sports Complex; Laser Tag, with some players far better than others; a set of competitive fixtures against Sir Thomas Rich School, Gloucester, with man of the match performances from Princely Akhigbe and Anirudh Mayala; an excellent opportunity to flag bear for the Scarlets V Sharks rugby fixture in Llanelli whilst also being able to experience an exciting game with lots of international players on show; and finally the weekend came to an end with a stadium tour of the Principality in Cardiff.
Two final mentions go to our award winners for ‘Top Tourists’. These awards were given to the students that conducted themselves with the highest standards at all times, were always polite and courteous, engaged with all activities and most importantly were good sportsmen with a smile on their face at all times. Well done to Daniel Cadmus-Alakuro and Fawaz Braimoh!
The weekend was a great success with the students representing themselves, Dartford Grammar School, Staff and Parents emphatically well throughout, with many compliments being received by all at the accommodation, the coach company and also the general public. Well done to all of the boys for their efforts this weekend, and of course thanks to Mr O’Neill, Mr Collins, Mr Burgess and Mr Jones for giving up their time to facilitate the trip and providing the opportunity for these experiences to take place.
